Anaplasma phagocytophilum–infected Ticks, Japan

We report Anaplasma phagocytophilum infection of Ixodes persulcatus and I. ovatus ticks in Japan. Unique p44/msp2 paralogs (and/or 16S rRNA genes) were detected in tick tissues, salivary glands, and spleens of experimentally infected mice. These findings indicate the public health threat of anaplasmosis in Japan.

Two Anaplasma phagocytophilum Strains in Ixodes scapularis Ticks, Canada

We developed PCR-based assays to distinguish a human pathogenic strain of Anaplasma phagocytophilum, Ap-ha, from Ap-variant 1, a strain not associated with human infection. The assays were validated on A. phagocytophilum-infected black-legged ticks (Ixodes scapularis) collected in Canada. The relative prevalence of these 2 strains in I. scapularis ticks differed among geographic regions.

Two Anaplasma phagocytophilum Strains in Ixodes scapularis Ticks, Canada

Blacklegged ticks (n=12,606) were collected over four years (2007-2010) as part of a national passive tick surveillance program conducted in Canada by the National Microbiology Laboratory (NML) using the methods described previously (1). Adult I. scapularis were also collected by drag sampling: in 2008 from Itasca State Park, Camp Ripley and St. Croix State Park (n=56 per locality) in Minnesota...

Anaplasma phagocytophilum Infection in Ticks, China–Russia Border

immunocompromised patients, the endogenous autoinfection cycle may result in the overproduction and dissemination of larvae into intestinal and extraintestinal tissues, including the central nervous system, leading to the hyperinfection syndrome which can be lethal (5). Most cases (96%) occur in immigrants, but some have been described in patients with a history of travel, sometimes many years ...

Detection of Anaplasma dna in Ixodes ricinus ticks: pitfalls.

A total of 150 nymphal Ixodes ricinus (L., 1758) (Acari: Ixodidae) from the Czech Republic were examined for Anaplasma phagocytophilum (Foggie, 1949) Dumler et al., 2001 by PCR using EHR521/747 primers: 22 of 50 pools were positive (minimum prevalence, 14.7%). However, sequencing of the PCR products did not show complete homology with A. phagocytophilum (91%) while the closest relationship (95%...
